Poisoning Calvin’s Well

The attempted argument against Calvinism goes something like this, “Was the burning of Michael Servetus a justified, godly thing to do?” The person making this argument is usually trying to blame John Calvin as a person who single-handedly convicted, tied-up and lit the match that started the burning of Servetus. Then, the conclusion which is trying to be drawn is that Calvin wasn’t a Christian nor a godly man, therefore, none of his understanding of doctrine is valid. This is akin to Dave Hunt’s opening arguments in the second half of the book Debating Cavlinism where Hunt basic thesis is …keep reading »

Morning has broken

I listened to a couple songs from Derek Webb’s new House CD today on the way to work. This CD is several of his songs with a few previously unreleased which are recorded live in front of small “house” audiences. Listening to Derek introduce his previously unreleased song I Repent was interesting. I listened to the song and reflected. The man has a way with words. Ponderings on William Lane Craig’s molinist position

On Dr. William Lane Craig’s website he has an article called A Middle Knowledge Perspective on Biblical Inspiration. Taking Craig’s conclusion on the inspiration of the Bible and applying it salvation seems to offer no valid reason why all are not saved. The first paragraph below are Craig’s actual words. The second is my re-written paragraph using Craig’s position, but applying it to salvation. In conclusion, it seems to me that the traditional doctrine of the plenary, verbal, confluent inspiration of Scripture is a coherent doctrine, given divine middle knowledge. Because God knew the relevant counterfactuals of creaturely freedom, He …keep reading »

Random babble

Update: If you happen upon this page please see the blog relaunch and redesign post for an update – Blog Relaunch With Thesis DIY Theme. As I was thinking of a name for the blog I asked the folks I was chatting with in #prosapologian. My friend TheHinge came up with names like “TheologicalGRITS” while DrOakley mentioned something to the effect of blogging or theology “in the Georgian Outback”. Finally, I came up with what you see now – “Sweet Tea & Theology”. I first had “Iced Tea & Theology” even though I was thinking about using “Sweet Tea” instead. …keep reading »
