I was flipping channels the other day and came across something on Daystar. I think it was Daystar. Anyways, it was some sort of Bible teaching and I was just thankful that it was the ole health and wealth stuff that is often on as Bible teaching.
Well, I hear a statement that went something like, “Well, God gives us a will….a free will and we must use it to decide.” I thought (and I mean this) in the gentlest way possible, “So what?”
As far as the Gospel, what does it solve or help in appealing to free will? How does that help to encourage one to believe the Gospel? Appealing to one’s free will, however free it actually is is an appeal to the very thing that we must surrender to God.
Why not instead just say God commands of all to repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins? One’s “free will” does not control the power of the Gospel through the regeneration of the Holy Spirit.
Not my will but Thy will,
Mark
