Blogging issues etc.?

I really don’t understand Todd Wilken who hosts the Issues, Etc. radio show. Recently, on one of Paul McCain’s anti-calvinist blog posts Wilken shared a few of his anti-calvinist ideas.

“Jesus”

When you read that word, a picture popped into your mind, right?

The iconoclastic Calvinist or Zwinglian cannot escape THAT image.

Lutherans are comfortable with art, because we are comfortable with the Incarnation. The incarnation still makes a few Calvinists and all Zwinglians squirm. Is it any wonder that they deny the body and blood of Jesus in the sacrament?

“Jesus”

See, I made you do it again!

Now, I admit that I do enjoy the Issues, Etc. radio program very much. You don’t really hear much anti-calvinism on the show. The most recent I can remember is from guest Dr. Martin Noland. Something that made me chuckle was when Greg Laurie was a guest and basically called Todd Wilken a Calvinist.

Recently on the show have been guests Greg Koukl and Bob Liichow, both Calvinists. I know that there have been other well known and educated Calvinists on the show such as Dr. R. Scott Clark and Dr. James White. I am sure I could find others. My point is to question why Todd Wilken doesn’t take advantage of his radio show instead of taking snide shots at Calvinists on a blog or letting his guests do so. Wilken has a platform and he should use it. James White constantly invites those who disagree with him to call into or be a guest on his Dividing Line radio show. Most never do, but the offer is there.

So, Mr. Wilken, why not have these Reformed theologians on your show to dialogue about many of the Lutheran misrepresentations of Calvinism? How about it?

What in the world could a Christian have lost if he has Christ? If a man loses the whole world and gains Christ, he has a total net gain of everything.

Well, as for Wilken. Picures in one’s mind are not the point. The point is rather that if we use images for teaching the unlearned and as a tool to enhance corporate worship it is like saying that we are wiser than God, as if His Word is insufficient. What was the golden calf all about? False worship of the true God.
But I like the program too.
