Yogi,

We don't know if every single word Jesus said to the messenger was recorded. So we simply don't conclusively know if Jesus called him out or not. I don't really know why this puzzles you.

He does give the answer to John his question by quoting Scripture and telling the messenger to take his witness of Jesus to John also. You could infer that there was rebuke there by the context, but I don't know for sure. I can elaborate if you like.

Also, Jesus doesn't always come out and say, "You have sinned." He doesn't tell that to "doubting" Thomas, for example, that I can recall.

Thanks for stopping by.

Nothing to share... I just am ponding the response of Jesus' compassion on John when he doubted and sent his disciples to question Him. He then tells them that J.the Bap. is the greatest man to ever live. He does not call him out on his doubting, that puzzles me a bit.

And for further discussion it would raise the quesion is all doubt, in His worth, work, or word, self, salvation, or anything else doubt. Of course some of those I would call as sin, but I guess it has more to do with what/who you are doubting (aka the object).

The verse that you offered is very helpful, it certainly compliments Hebrews 11:6! I would, however, welcome any additional thoughts!

(I am think of creating my own blog site, are you pleased with this one... and why didn't you go with blogger? Just courious.)

Yogi,

Is doubt a sin? I would say that it is. Let me offer a proof text as I am short on time.

Romans 14:23 But the who doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and whatever is not from faith is sin.[NASB]

As I understand it some think there is a gray area here. Maybe there is, but I'm not convinced. Maybe there is more about John the Baptist that you have concern with to share?

I have been reading your entries and their pretty good. I’m sure that I have been on the net longer than I should be reading this but it was time well spent!

While I gotcha (kind of) I want to kick around a thought… Is doubting a sin? I got my own thoughts but I would like to hear yours! (ps If so then what do you do with James 1:5-8 vs John the Baptist).

And by the way, Mike really is a great guy! I got a chance to meet him at the Heritage Conference this year. He told me to call him Mickey, but whatever you do don’t call him a Red-Sock’s fan :) !!!

Enjoy,

Yogi,

Thanks for stopping by. However much one agrees with Darin Patrick or not, he has much more balance that the Emerging folks need.

The "Divinity" book just didn't look right so I looked it up. :)

I really like Solid Ground Books and Mike over there is a great guy.

JohnMark,

I look forward to listening to this, thanks for the goods!

And the Body of Divinity (on Tim's Blog) we were chatting about is not the right guy, bummer. This one on the Solid ground books website is still a good one. Sorry about the slip up!

Frank, so I'm a day late short of a picnic... or something like that. ;)

Sam, thanks.

I just finished listening and I appreciated what Darrin had to say. Church discipline, discernment in choosing church planters, reaching the community and teaching the members to essentially be evangelistic.

It is interesting that he mentioned learning about growing the church from the "seeker" folks. I'd like to understand how this is worked out and if the worship services are centered toward the unbeliever rather than primarily towards gathering to worship God. I'm just thinking out loud because this is part of the place that I get stuck.

More to come...

That's only Part 1. I have part 1. :-)

I think it's good as a survey of the landscape. I want to hear what he says after the survey is done.
