Hillary Replaces Jesus and President Obama Is Inserted Into a Hymn

Voices from the Heart, a women’s alternative chorus, recently changed the words for a Christian hymn replacing Jesus’ name with Hillary Clinton’s. According to a Facebook post, they sang this alternative hymn to about 1,200 people. I would understand if this were a Weird Al Yankovic tune – there would have been some creativity and humor. But these women were serious!

Yep, this chorus took the African-American hymn Woke Up this Mornin’ which is about Jesus and made it about Hillary.

This alternative hymn certainly comes across as Hillary worship. I wish I were surprised, but I’m not. People have been worshiping creatures other than God for a long time. Even the New Testament tells us some “exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served something created instead of the Creator, who is praised forever. Amen” (Rom. 1:25 HCSB).

This hymn for Hillary is not the first time Voices from the Heart inserted a politician into a hymn. They did something similar in 2009 for President Obama’s inauguration with Swahili hymn Bwana awabariki which means “May God Grant You a Blessing.” This particular hymn was chosen because the chorus director was looking for a song from Kenya to sing for Obama and Swahili is one of the two official languages of Kenya. This addition to the hymn was not as bad as the one for Hillary above. This time, the song was changed to say “Bwana awabariki (May God grant you a blessing), Barack Obama.”

The irony here is that Conservatives are often charged and chided for bringing God into politics. Will Liberals now face the charge of  turning their politicians into God?

Here I blog…
