Ah-HA! Lynn Cooper wishes the best for your family but not for you PERSONALLY!
The really funny thing is (as opposed to my previous comment) Is that "cult" was used on the UU sign! They are the ones insulting someone else's faith and not being inclusive here.
Sorry but i looked at this webste here and saw nothing appealing to me.I'm proud of who i am and i am not ashamed to be a unitarian universalist.A cult is putting down someone's religion if not according to your belief. All have a opinion of god and i have my own.Take care and hope the best for your family.
Perhaps someone should attend that talk or call the place, as it would be interesting to know how they could consider the identification of cults to be consistent with their all-inclusiveness.
Darrin,
How have you been, brother? Another friend of mine asked me about the talk in question. This UU congregation does not seem to have a podcast or offer mp3 downloads. I may contact them about a copy of the message as I too would like to know how they define a cult.
Hey Mark! Better than I deserve, despite regular trials and failures. Hope to visit this blog more and maybe get back to some myself. Good to see your posts. Trust you'll keep serving in the faith as He keeps you in His grace!
Darrin, you're always an encouragement. Last semester was very rough. I have a rough draft about it that I'm thinking of completing and posting. The Lord grew me a lot during that time in various ways. He is good!
Sorry, I read the spell check wrong. That should be "Universalism", not "Unilateralism".
But is Unilateralism so much a cult? I consider it a heresy, but not a cult, at least not in the modern definition which includes a strong, individual leader who demands absolute obedience by his followers, as Jim Jones.
Hi Peter L,
Are you asking about Unitarian Univeralists or just Universalists? From a Christian perspective I think many would consider both a cult since they come out of biblical Christianity and deny key tenets of the faith.
But Mark-in this case they will identify us(people who believe the Bible means what it says and that Hell is an eternally real place) as the cultists.
Victoria, of course they will. It is interesting the the UU folks are united essentially around everything which in effect turns out to be nothing.
