While preparing to gather with a local body of believers, Who will you worship? Pause for a moment and contemplate-try to wrap your mind around-Who.

Who is this that we worship?

The Baptist Catechism asks about Who God is and gives some Scriptural insight. What a wonderful question, answer and, especially, Scripture to meditate on for worship preparation.

Question 1: Who is the first and best of beings?

Answer: God is the first and best of beings.

Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel and his Redeemer,
the LORD of hosts: “I am the first and I am the last;
besides me there is no god. Isaiah 44:6 (ESV)

O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens. Psalm 8:1 (ESV)

For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised;
he is to be feared above all gods. Psalm 96:4 (ESV)

For you, O LORD, are most high over all the earth;
you are exalted far above all gods. Psalm 97:9 (ESV)

There is none holy like the LORD;
there is none besides you;
there is no rock like our God. 1 Samuel 2:2 (ESV)
