I’m reformed-evangelical and I have a respect to Dr. James White. The only thing that bothers me about him is the WAY he debated other Christian religion particularly Roman Catholicism – his overall tone and attitude is somewhat contentious. If he just focus on the subject at hand and not attack and add ridicule to the person on the opposite side I think would be healthy, christian-like healthy!

I have an admiration on the scholarly and respectful works of Dr. Norm Geisler, R.C Sproul and Greg Koukl. On the other side the brilliant Thomas Aquinas, the prolific English writers C.K. Chesterton, C.S. Lewis, Helaire Beloc, Dr. Scott Hahn and Dr.Peter Kreept.

Hi AJ. Maybe the problem is that you see Roman Catholicism as “other Christian religion.” Historically, Protestants have not considered Rome as such. Even today many (most?) Protestants feel the same way. Historically, the feeling has been mutual.

Could you give an example of James White in a debate where his “overall tone and attitude is somewhat contentious?” He seems very gracious in his debates. He’s even been thanked by Muslims for his courtesy and respect.

Just a sampler of James White’s “jabs” (Emphasis Capital Letters) having a discussion with fellow christians:

“So, we find Madrid once again pulling out of MOTHBALLS SURFACE- LEVEL MATERIALS that are nearly two decades old,”,

“It has been rightly said that a large portion of the guards at Buchenwald and Auschewitz were practicing CATHOLICS.”

“In looking at his blog article found here I was just a little surprised to discover that Mr. Akin, the lead apologist for Catholic Answers, HAS NOT DONE HIS HOMEWORK on this particular subject, and in reading the comments left by Roman Catholics on this blog entry, it seems the majority of them are happy to go on SECOND HAND RESEARCH as well”.

Be that as it may, the point of Jae was valid and legit, in the subject of Artificial Contraception which prior to 30’s all christian churches agree that such an act is contrary to the Will of God, why did we protestants change? could we change the TRUTH? (when Truth is One and unchangeable). It really bothers me and frankly not even one brilliant protestant scholar could give a sensible answer to it.

In the Bible it says “deny ONE Truth and you denied it all”, then it follows that if we deny this Truth and Jesus is Truth, thus we have denied Jesus?

For me the question of authority persist in my soul.

Peace of Christ be with you brothers.

Jae, I don’t appreciate you coming back here under the name AJ pretending to be a “Reformed Evangelical”. Or, just pretending to be someone else. Think what you will of James White. He does not pretend to be who he is not.

Those quotes are responses not debates. Unfortunately, it is hard to read “tone” online. Besides, it’s not as if Dr. White does not get the same type of responses. A little creative rhetoric never hurt anyone.

Please, feel free not to respond again.

I’m sorry to disappoint you but I’m not AJ but he’s a good friend of mine and classmate back in college. God Bless.

Normally when someone’s IP address is exactly the same as someone else’s it is the same person posting under a different name.

Who is AJ pretending to be, Mark?

8 Mark Lamprecht January 16, 2010 at 12:18 pm

Carrie, this seems like an odd question given what I said above. 🙂 AJ and Jae have the same IP address. I suppose Sbc Internet Services could give people the same IP, but I’m just not convinced. Plus, for some reason they both want to talk about artificial contraception. I dunno…
