My Recent Sermon On James 3:7-8

Post image for My Recent Sermon On James 3:7-8

Last Thursday night I got a call from a friend at a somewhat unusual time around 5:30 pm. It was a friend named Kevin Griggs who pastors a local church a few cities north of me. Due to unexpected events he asked if I could fill his pulpit that Sunday. We spoke the next morning to confirm that he did, in fact, need me to preach Sunday. So, I had less than two days to prepare a sermon.

So I just bought one for a small, one-time fee of $50. I’m just kidding! You’ll know I’m kidding if you listen. Anyway, I took one of my devotions and lengthened it some. Providentially, everything seemed to work out just fine. That is, despite the short notice and my lack of preaching experience, it seems the Lord blessed the message as far as I can tell from the feedback. I write that with the thought of how hard it is to answer the question, “So how did your sermon go?”

Well, that’s the back story and I’m very appreciative that Kevin asked me to preach and for the kind folks at Hickory Road. If anyone is interested in listening you can find the sermon at this link:

Christ, the Tongue Whisperer

I can’t, however, take credit for the clever title. That was all Kevin!

Let's connect!

Mark, the message is Gospel-centered, anchored by the Word, and very applicable for ones wanting to walk closer with Jesus. Thank you for being faithful to communicating the Word.

James, thank you for your kind words. And I know I have much growth to do in preaching.

Excellent message, brother! Your voice is also completely different than I’d thought it would be, lol!

Ohhh that is a catchy title! As I have found in blogging title is almost as important as content.

Thanks, Marie! But as I asked someone else, how did you think I would sound, like Mike Tyson? 🙂

The title makes me laugh. I don’t know if it’s good or bad, but I’ve gotten plenty of razzing about it from friends.

Yup! 🙂 But with a Southern accent.

HRBC is less than 1/4 a mile from my house! Can’t wait to get a chance to listen to it.
