I was talking to a pastor friend about the work of the ministry and the local church. We were talking about the work the Bible describes, the hard work. He summed it up nice and succinctly.
People are sheep. Sheep stink and bite. Feeding them isn’t really hard, living with them is.
For what it’s worth…

That’s a ridiculous comment
You prove the pastor’s point sheep do bite!
I guess they even bite themselves!
Mark??? What’s up??? Starting to sound like those people who don’t like “Church People”?
I can tell you for certain, if I am in need of comfort and assistance, I’ll take a dirty sheep over a “Velvet Jesus” any day (and ten times on Sunday).
Perhaps we should push for more regenerate church membership?
Just my .02.
Tony,
I love church people. I’m one of them. I stink and bite, but Jesus cleans me up. There is a broader context to the above. And Eddie is the one who actually said what I quoted.
“Eddie is the one who actually said what I quoted”
I knew that as soon as I saw his first comment. What a troublemaker that guy is!

The best advice I got early on in ministry was:
“Sheep bite and shepherds fight.”
Tyler,
That’s another keeper!
Thanks,
Mark
ahhhh……It didn’t sound like you.
count me stupid, I would run right off a cliff…
I don’t think I fully appreciate the difficulty with which our ministers must often shepherd us, as we so easily wander off the path. Thanks to the Great Shepherd for giving strength and wisdom to the pastors/elders who faithfully lead us, even when we are thankless.
I thought of this post/quote again today after reading another statement along the same lines. It’s a good completion of the picture of sheep, or Christians in the church.
