Note to Christians: Tip Well or Don’t Eat!

Of course, the story of “pastor” Alois Bell scratching out the 18% mandatory tip on the receipt and writing in “I give God 10% why do you get 18?” is all over the internet now. I first learned of the story when my friend Marty wrote “An open letter to a fired waitress: I’m sorry we are so stingy.” Bell has explained herself in an interview (see below). One waitress, who did not wait on Bell, posted an image of the receipt on the atheism section of reddit which set off the current viral firestorm. Bell left out of her …keep reading »

2012 Thoughts on Blogging, Life and Stuff

The sand in the hour glass of 2012 has almost run out. Time sure seems to go by fast these days. The end of 2012 means another year of blogging also ends. All is not lost since a new year, 2013, begins – Lord willing. I’ve been blogging for several years. Yet, I do not know if I would consider myself a successful blogger. I’m not sure if I am even a good blogger, but I know my writing has improved. Hopefully, my content has also improved. Hardest Part of the Christian Life is the Easiest to Understand

I was talking with a brother about our upcoming discipleship groups. He mentioned that the material is not as doctrinally deep as he would have liked. Knowing how proud doctrine and knowledge once made me – I got his point! Not that he was being prideful, but I understood. I thought about my own failings for a moment. I encouraged my brother that these …keep reading »

Feeling the smashing blows of the cyber-hammer are unmistakable no matter how many internet connections away you may be. My fellow Christians, this ought not be since we are to live at peace with all while praying for our enemies (Rom. 12:14-21) and do good to all, especially, our fellow Christians (Gal. 6:10). I admit, I am guilty! I am also repentant. I am hoping the way I respond …keep reading »

A Six-Word Memoir of the Christian Life

Legend has it that Ernest Hemingway was once challenged to write a six word short story. The result was: “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” That’s quite a story in six words. Along that line of thought, SMITH Magazine, who believes everyone has a story, challenges people to tell theirs in six words or less. A six-word memoir is an interesting concept. I figured I’d give it a try

Who Is Watching Your Life?

Ride to Live, Live to Ride is the motto you’ll find on biker t-shirts.  It’s really a cool saying.  The motto can be changed to reflect whatever is primary in your life from riding motorcycles to sports to your job.  In reality the motto is about self.  The primacy of me we might say.  So what do you say?  How about something better?
