It can be difficult to explain that salvation comes by grace through faith in the gospel. Faith being the instrument by which God’s grace is received. Understanding this helps us not to ground our faith in our faith. For example, if I am struggling with my standing before God and I look to my faith which I am already struggling with for comfort, I am attempting support my weak faith upon itself.
