Camping Missed It: Judgement Day is Everyday

Unfortunately, by now Harold Camping is probably a household name. A household name that is probably not widely cherished among households. Camping will most likely be known as that false Christian Judgement Day teacher until the day he dies. Since he is approaching 90 years old he probably will not be with us much longer. But is there still time for him to get it right?

Yes, there is still time for Camping to get it right.

I don’ t mean that his third time for predicting the end of the world later this year will be the charm. Maybe that’s what he’s going for, but I mean that while he is alive there is still time for him to get it right by repenting of his false teachings and believing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Yes, there is time.

See, Judgement Day is everyday.

As much as Camping and is followers focus on a particular day of judgement they are missing the big picture. We know that Jesus said, “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.” (Matthew 24:36 ESV) So why focus on what Jesus said you don’t know?

Rather, concerning judgement a simple reading of Jesus’ words recorded in John 3:18 makes the point that, “Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” (ESV)

Again, Judgement Day is everyday. Everyday that someone does not believe the gospel of Jesus Christ they live under condemnation. Sure, that’s not as exciting and as sensationalistic as waiting to see what happens on that one particular day. Jesus simple message of the gospel does not produce near the excitement or garner the attention of someone like Camping. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems the gospel should produce such attention. Maybe the reason it does not is because the true gospel is not being as fervently shared.

I don’t know.

But I do know that Harold Camping may or may not live to be 90 and you may not live to be 89. Rather than putting your hope in a particular judgement day or birthday that you may never see; put that hope in Jesus Christ and you won’t have to worry about either.
