Church Sign of the Week: King James Only

This photo was taken in the Smoky Mountains while on vacation. We had just driven onto Cherokee land when we passed this church sign. So we turned the car around and took a picture of it. The church name is included in the original picture, but I cut that part out. For the record, the church is not a Southern Baptist church, but an Independent Missionary Baptist church.

Wondering how their copy stands… mine doesn’t have legs!

This is the kind nonsense that turns people away from the church. I wish that Christians everywhere would simply enjoy the freedom that is found in their relationship with Christ. It seems to me that legalism like this just poisons that precious relationship.

I asked a “KJV only” pastor about people from other countries who read the Bible in their own language. Are they reading the Word of God? He said, “Only if it was translated from the Greek Textus Receptus,” from which the KJV is translated. (I have often wondered why the Greek text has a Latin name.) He won’t even let a Spanish preacher use his Reina-Valera Spanish Bible in the pulpit. Sad that some are closed to the more recently discovered ancient texts.
